Outreach Opportunities

If you are interested in learning how to put together an outreach program or event, or are interested in participating in one, STEM CORE is a great UO resource.

STEM CORE is a consortium of UO science, math and education faculty, STEM outreach and education program coordination staff, community college faculty, K-12 collaborators, STEM industry and government partners and supporters. STEM CORE’s mission is to produce a broader and deeper pool of STEM talent in Oregon and nationally through the development of efficient and effective models for student learning and engagement, and by forging new collaborations between education faculty, K-12 educator, science researcher, mathematician, STEM industry and government partnerships.

The STEM CORE calendar features outreach events.

Surrounded by Science is a practitioner guide to leading informal science activities. Bonus: the PDF is free.

Learning Science in Informal Environments is a free PDF offered by the National Research Council report on summarizing research and is highly recommended by STEM CORE Associate Director, Bryan Rebar.

In addition to STEM CORE, the following groups also provide outreach opportunities:

The University of Oregon Women in Graduate Science has outreach opportunities and invited speakers.

SPICE puts on many big and small science events for kids, and a great summer program. They are always looking for volunteers for these events.

The Science Factory has many volunteer opportunities, from one time events to regularly scheduled opportunities. If you want to be a little more involved, they are also looking for counselors for their summer program.
